Good Morning, Grade Ones! I hope that you had a great weekend and that you are ready for our first full week of learning in a new way.

Weekly Schedule for April 6-10th

Parents: Below you will find an outline of activities for the grade one students this
week.
Please feel free to use what is manageable for you and your child.
You are welcome to change, add, adapt or revise this plan to ensure that your child
has a successful experience. Thank you for your help and support as we move forward
and learn together.

Please make sure you and your family get outside for fresh air daily.
This is important for your physical and mental health.

Please make sure you are reading each day by reading books or Raz Kids to yourself,
your family or a stuffy.

Monday, April 6th
Word Work for This Week: Here are some activities that can be done using the Dolch
sight word lists throughout the week. Please use the list that is most appropriate for
your child. Teachers will send leveled flash cards to your email.

1. Print off word list from computer if possible or write the words on paper cards and play
Go Fish with them. You get to keep it if you can read it
2. Identify words in piles of “words I know” and “words I don't know”
3. Cut out the letters of the words from a magazine and put the words together
4. Play 'Teacher' by making flashcards and ask me to practice reading them to you
5. Play “Guess My Word” (spider) with the words
6. Pick 5 words to find in a book

Literacy
Use the links below to listen to the two feelings songs that we sang together in class.
Then draw a picture to show how you are feeling today.

Math
Use the link below to listen to the story “The Napping House”. Then, figure out how many
feet are in YOUR house.
Show your thinking: Use numbers, pictures, words, tally marks
or number sentences to help solve the problem.

Tuesday, April 7th
Literacy
Watch and sing the feelings songs that were posted yesterday.
Then print a list of words that tell how you are feeling today.

Word Work
Continue Word Work activities from Monday.

Math
Use the link from yesterday and re-watch the story “The Napping House”. Then figure out
how many feet are in THAT house. Like last time, use numbers, pictures, words, tally marks or
number sentences to help solve the problem. Don’t forget that a flea is an insect, so it has
six feet!
Next think about these questions:
Which house has MORE feet? How many more feet? How do you know?
Challenge: How many feet are in your house and “The Napping House” ALL TOGETHER?

Wednesday, April 8th
Literacy
Watch and sing the feelings songs that were posted yesterday.
Then print sentences that tell how you are feeling today.

Word Work
Continue Word Work activities from Monday.

Math
Using characters of your choice, who might be in a house if there are 8 feet in the house?
What would you name this house?
Show your thinking: Remember to use numbers, pictures, words, tally marks or number
sentences (equations) to help solve the problem.
Challenge: Who could be in the house if there were 12 feet? 20 feet? A number of your choice?

Thursday, April 9th
Math
Finish us your tasks from Monday and Tuesday if you need more time.
Math Game: Print the numerals 1-20 to make a “game board” and play Race To 20.

Friday, April 10th (Good Friday) - NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS

Happy Friday Everyone!

We understand that this has been a very unusual few weeks for everyone. It is important to take care of our mental wellness at all times, but perhaps especially now as we navigate challenges and change. As we head into the weekend, we invite families to connect and share their thoughts by discussing these ideas.

What am I grateful for today?

Who am I checking in on or connecting with today?

In the days and weeks ahead, we will have questions for families to discuss.

We miss you all and hope that you stay safe and have a happy and healthy weekend.

Hello Grade One Families!

It was great to connect with most of you by phone and hear that you are managing
during this difficult time.

Welcome to our first blog post that outlines online learning and activities for the
grade one students. We invite you to use the information that we will be posting
to guide your child’s learning. We understand that there are many unique factors
to balance these days, so please feel free to adapt, change or modify these
suggestions for your child. Please remember that current online learning
requirements as outlined by Alberta Education stipulate that children should be
engaged in one hour of work per day, or five hours per week.

Thursday:

Word Work: Here are the sight word lists that the students have been using
during Literacy time at school. Students are working at varying levels.
By Monday, we will provide links to individual word lists and flashcards as
well as ideas that can be used at home to practice these words. In the
meantime, if you would like, you could do an initial assessment of your
child’s sight word recognition reading skills by having them read as many
words as possible from these lists.

Poetry:

Please read the poem and draw a picture that matches the words. You can print
this page or use a blank piece of paper.

Math Game:

Tens Go Fish
1.   Each player is dealt 5 cards.
2.   Each player looks for pairs from his or her cards that make 10. Players put
down the pairs of cards that make 10, and they draw new cards to replace them.
3.   Players take turns asking each other for a card that will make 10 with a card in
their own hands.
4.   Continue until all the cards are gone.
5.   The player with the most 10’s is the winner.

Spring Song:
Here is a new spring song for you to learn.

Friday:

Reading:
Please ensure that you are able to get logged into Raz-Kids and spend 15-20
minutes exploring books.

Math Task:
How many ways can you represent the number 12? Use numbers, pictures
and words to represent your understanding in as many ways as possible.
For example:
6+6=12
15-3=12
2 bees have 12 legs

Yoga:
Follow the link below to try some yoga. You can invite your family to join you.

Have a safe weekend! “See” you on Monday!
