Catch Me if You Can, I am the Gingerbread man!

We had a great day today. We started the day with all the grade 1 students listening to the story the Gingerbread Man. After, all the students were sent on a scavenger hunt around the school with some grade 6 students to find clues to find the gingerbread man.  The Gingerbread was in the grade 1 class and we all enjoyed a gingerbread cookie together and some dancing.

In Math we learned a new math game called Making 10 Go Fish with Power of Ten Cards.

After lunch the students had music and finished up their Mitten for storytelling. All students had a chance to practice and some students told their story to the whole class.

We ended the day will poem reading with all the grade 1 students.

Who will be in your version of the story "The Mitten"?

Highlights Of Our Learning

-Yesterday we started exploring different versions of the story The Mitten. We started with the version that was written and illustrated by Jan Brett and then read a second version. We compared and contrasted the two stories and discussed how "storytellers" can add the details that they think makes the best story. Today the students drew and large mitten in their Visual Journals and in the days ahead they will select five animal characters to write about and they will then begin working on their own oral version of the story.

-Today students found many sight words in a new song that we are learning called "I Am I" and highlighted them by colouring a neat box around each word.

-We are working on printing subtraction equations. Yesterday, our focus was on printing and solving "-1" questions. Today the children rolled two six-sided dice and used the quantities rolled to print equations.

-All grade one classes went to gym today and ran sprints with a partner.
-We had a great recess playing outside in the snow.
